A step-by-step guide to my creative (brewing) process.

Design is like a cup of coffee or tea: Every element has to work together to create something you want to drink.

01

Define
What’s the cup we need to fill?

What are we making? Who is it for? What does it need to communicate?Understand the ask is crucial to producing the right answer.

02

Immerse
What fills more than our own cup?

Getting familiar with the subject, breaking things down, becoming passionate and informed about the work, before even doing it.

03

Explore
Mix, play, and see where ideas go.

From sketches and vectors to layouts and language models. I like to let creativity flow. Using all tools assemble the pieces of a project.

04

Refine
Taste, test, and try try again.

I’m not after “good enough”. Getting opinions, reworking, asking questions, returning to previous steps if needed. The output is better for it.

05

Improvise
My secret ingredient (sometimes).

Asking a new question, taking an outside perspective, or being okay with being wrong. Sprinkling in that pivot makes a difference.

06

Serve
Hot and ready to-go.

Pretty simple. So does anyone want to have a drink?
