A step-by-step guide to my creative (brewing) process.
Design is like a cup of coffee or tea: Every element has to work together to create something you want to drink.
Define
What’s the cup we need to fill?
What are we making? Who is it for? What does it need to communicate? Understanding the ask is crucial to producing the right answer.
Immerse
What fills more than our own cup?
Becoming familiar with your subject, breaking things down, being informed about your audience or a clients broader industry, any project big or small needs perspective.
Explore
Mix, play, and see where ideas go.
From sketches and vectors, to layouts and language models. This is the step for creativity to flow. Using any tool to start visualizing the pieces of a project.
Refine
Taste, test, and try try again.
Not after “good enough”. Getting opinions, reworking, asking questions, returning to previous steps if needed. The output is better for it.
Improvise
My secret ingredient (sometimes).
Asking a new question, taking an outside perspective, or being okay with being wrong. Sprinkling in that ability to pivot makes a difference.
Serve
Hot and ready to-go.
Pretty simple. Anyone want a drink?
