Fun Fact:When I left the DO I wrote a goodbye letter to the paper:

“You and I have been through so much. You were a rectangle, then square, then rectangular again. You came out twice a week on Sundays and Wednesdays then Monday-Wednesdays, then just Wednesday.“

The Daily OrangeSyracuse University’s Student Newspaper Art Direction + Editorial

A 120-year-old paper finds a new voice.

Overview

With over a century of student journalism, The Daily Orange continues to navigate evolving formats, tight budgets, and rapid deadlines — all while serving the Syracuse community with sharp, relevant coverage. As design editor and later presentation director, the focus was on unifying the paper’s visual identity across print and digital, art-directing photo shoots, refining layouts, and enhancing usability online to improve readers experience.

Lacrosse Guide 2023

A talented freshman class re-energized Syracuses’ Lacrosse program heading into the season, with talks of the team dominating like it had in years past.

This special edition celebrated the 20-year anniversary of Syracuse Universitys’ 2003 basketball championship through unique stories, anecdotes, and an art-directed guide that celebrates the history of that championship season through curated archival photography.

Website Redesign

As The Daily Orange shifted its focus toward digital platforms, the website needed a major refresh to be more user-friendly and aligned with the evolution of both its brand and the broader digital news landscape.

Infographics

Infographics played a major role in both print and digital stories, requiring the use of the brand toolkit to create visuals that complimented select stories.

Please support the Daily Orange, and check out the work of my fellow designers who I’ve worked these projects on at the Daily Orange: Stephanie Zaso, Megan Thompson, and Morgan Sample.
